Nestled in the village atmosphere of Balmain’s main street, Blue Ginger is a South-East Asian restaurant with its main focus on quality of food and service standards.

Behind the 150 year-old carved and brass-bolted temple doors, Blue Ginger portrays a calm and spacious oasis, that is until half-way through the evening when it literally can be overflowing with diners. It is well-recognised as a jewel in the crown of the Inner West of Sydney and an institution for high quality South-East Asian food.

Since opening in 1996, Blue Ginger has received many awards and accolades.

Michael Corrente is no stranger to the Sydney restaurant business, starting out learning the basics in a busy, high-volume function centre over 25 years ago. It was not long before he opened his first restaurant on Norton Street – the successful and popular Café Norton.

Since then he has been involved in 18 restaurants – notably Café Norton and Luna Blu on Norton Street, and Big Mama’s in Woollahra. Then, 17 years ago, he opened Blue Ginger in Balmain, his longest-running success story.

Michael is passionate about great food and wine. Travelling frequently to Asia and elsewhere on culinary tours, he keeps in touch with Asian cuisines worldwide. A lover of flavoursome street food using local produce and handmade ingredients, the inspiration for the creation of Blue Ginger is evident.
